Located on a steep Boulder hillside, South Sunset is a modern outdoor retreat built to celebrate its extraordinary setting. From the upper deck, warm wood decking and slender steel cable railings frame sweeping views over Pearl Street and the CU campus to the unmistakable silhouette of the Flatirons. Below, the challenging slope was reshaped into a series of usable levels anchored by a sleek elevated pool whose dark, mirrorlike surface captures the shifting Colorado sky. Bringing the pool to life required close collaboration with Boulder's Historic Preservation Committee, working through design refinements together to create a feature that respects the character of the neighborhood while meeting the clients' vision for modern living. Mature canopy trees were carefully preserved to provide shade and a sense of history, and a rugged boulder garden planted with lavender and drought-tolerant perennials steps down the hillside to hold the grade with natural beauty.
