Set into a forested mountain slope, Iron Mountain is a terraced outdoor living space designed around long views across the foothills. Cast concrete retaining walls shape the grade into a series of level terraces, each with a distinct purpose. At the center, a sunken lounge with a sectional and linear fire table provides a sheltered place to gather, framed overhead by strung lights. Nearby, an outdoor kitchen with a concrete bar counter connects to composite decking, and lit concrete steps rise to a dining terrace beneath a steel pergola. Raised concrete planters carry a crevice-style palette of sedum, dianthus, hens and chicks, creeping thyme, and catmint, chosen for durability at elevation. At the edge of the upper terrace, a raised water basin draws the eye outward to the surrounding ridgelines. The design balances a durable, modern material palette with planting and placement that keep the focus on the landscape beyond.
